Welcome to Fascination in Fabrics.
Welcome to Fascination in Fabrics. My name is Bobbi Smith, and I am a Family and Consumer Science Professional. I have a BS degree in Textiles and Clothing with a specialization in Fashion Merchandising from Ohio University and an AS degree in Retailing.
I also have a certificate in Industrial Fashion Methods from Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science.
I started Fascination in Fabrics 25 years ago as an heirloom sewing business making heirloom christening gowns and classic children’s clothing. In the early 2000’s I went to Huntsville, AL for several heirloom licensing programs and for several years taught heirloom sewing as a licensed Viking Martha Pullen instructor in my local Viking store. I also taught a variety of other classes during those years as well.
In 2004, the Viking store in Wilmington, DE needed an instructor for their kids’ sewing camps. I volunteered and it was a wonderful experience. The kids were so enthusiastic and loved being creative and personalizing each project to make it their own. I was hooked and a new part of my teaching career began.
For the next 20 years I taught kids to sew in many of the private schools in Wilmington, DE. My home school where I taught the most was Tower Hill School. I spent most of the school year teaching kids 5 yrs – 12 years the joys of sewing in their aftercare program. During the summer I would spend 9 weeks running sewing camps with a variety of themes for kids 5 years and up.
Cindy Sardo, the Director of Auxiliary Programs at Tower Hill writes:
“Fascination in Fabric was an outstanding addition to the Tower Hill Enrichment Program lineup. Ms. Bobbi taught our students the fundamentals of sewing as they created the most adorable projects adored by the children and their families. In addition, one favorite was the “Measure Me Dolls” that our first graders created each year under her careful guidance to resemble themselves.
Plus, her knowledge of sewing is incredible!”
Today, I am now teaching both kids and adults in my home classroom. Private, semi-private, and small group classes are available. I specialize in starting all my students on their sewing journey with a good basic knowledge of skills and techniques in hand or machine sewing. Building on these basic skills, we explore all types of sewing and needle arts depending on their interests and skill level. Learning to sew and loving it!
If you would love to learn the joys of sewing, give me a call and we’ll set up a lesson. Hours and times are flexible. If you don’t have a machine, I have one you can use. I also have kits available for projects or you may purchase your own materials if you wish. Not in my area, let’s set up a zoom call and have a lesson virtually! Sewing is so much fun, a lifelong skill, and truly a creative and fulfilling endeavor. Let me share my passion for sewing with you!
